GoPro Hero 3 Black 2.7K 24fps Cine Test With Leah Petersen Stunt Motorcyclist. 4K & 2.7K Downloads
The strongest attribute of the new GoPro Hero 3 Black is the 2.7K 24fps Protune Cine mode. Chris Collins hooked up this shoot with Leah Petersen. We decided to stick with the 2.7K 24fps Protune rather than drop down to any other resolution. We know what 1080 x 1920 60P looks like and forget about 720 x 1280 120fps. We wanted the best resolution possible. The 4K would have been nice but I do not trust it for anything beyond portraits. I have included a short sample 4K video and a 2.7K video for comparison. The camera did extremely well under the conditions. The Hero 3 lets you manually adjust white balance. We shot this at 5500K. The auto exposure also held up very well. I only slightly tweaked the exposure in the final video. The micro SD’s are a little annoying. I got a little over two hours with a 32GB micro SD. The in camera battery does not last very long. I would say maybe an hour tops. We had two in camera batteries and one new Bac Pac style battery and they all barely lasted a ten hour day with charges in-between locations. We had to use the older LCD Bac Pac to line up shots and that helped drain the batts, hopefully with the new iPhone update they will last a little longer. The new GoPro Hero 3 Black at only $399 is one badass little camera. Enough to make you forget the quirky mounts, annoying beeps and complicated menu system. Here are a few sample videos straight out of the camera to play around with. They are handheld vista shots of the location. Should be good for grading and image stabilization. You may have to download the Cineform Studio and upgrade by contacting them to import the 2.7K files. Please follow up in the comments if you find alternate ways t import into a NLE.
