GoPro Hero 3 Black 4K Video Demo. Cineform 1.3.2 Update link. RAW 4K file

Cameras

We got our hands on the new GoPro Hero 3 Black edition. Here are two 4K examples. Choose “Original” resolution for full res in You Tube. The new GoPro Hero 3 Black has a 4K cine and 2.7K cine option that we tested before an upcoming shoot. There are a few things to sort out before the new black edition has all of the promised features. Here is what it took for me to get going. It took a few hours to get everything sorted but I think it was well worth it. Cineform does a good job of converting the 12fps 4K to something useable. The motion of the swing is pretty good. The OSD image stabilization is killer! I hit those speed bumps at around  40MPH with very little camera shake. Here are links to the swing at 4K 12 fps. TheGoPro  App  for Hero 3 Black is not available until December so it’s blind or LCD bac pac until then. No iPhone support just yet.

Here is a quick guide to the updates required for the new GoPro Hero 3 Black 4K and 2.7K

1. Open camera by pressing first latch and LIFTING the second latch. Use something. It gets easier with use.

2. Insert scary micro SD card and power up. Scroll through crazy menu system and turn off beeps! Find Resolution menu.

3. Check resolution options. If 4K cine is there, you are set. Proceed to step number 5. If not you need to update the firmware.

Click here to update firmware. This takes about 20 minutes.

Download and unzip new firmware. Copy to root folder SD card in camera.( Drag and drop into main SD drive )

4. They say it can take up to 10 minutes and multiple tries. It took me two reboots or about 20 minutes.

5. Download Cineform free version here. You will need this to convert your files to .mov files for FCP or other NLE systems.

6. If you have 1.3.1 then you will need to update to version 1.3.2 Contact customer support and request version 1.3.2 here. support@cineform.com

About two years ago a new Canon camera changed the way the world sees both motion and still photography. He just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

Is anyone else having trouble opening the gopro support page to upgrade the firmware?  Anyone else getting an indication that they have current firmware for the Hero3 black, when the app support has still clearly not come across?

  • Princephotography

Yes i’m still having issues as well.

  • Dave

Can you explain or tell us what OSD stabilization is? Is it a software or what? Trying to figure out the best way to stabilize the gopro footage. Thanks.

  • Neil Evans

Hi I’m wondering what the OSD stabilisation is all about – I can’t find any reference to it?
