iBlazr: The Mobile Phone Light We Need

Cameras

If you are as addicted to your phone as I am then I’m sure you hate the flash on it as much as I do. It’s harsh, not adjustable, and pretty much sucks.

iBlazr is another Kickstarter campaign, it’s an accessory and app for iPhone and Android. It’s really just a small 4 LED panel that can be used with or without your phone. As a flash, or constant video light. It uses its own 200mAh internal battery and charges via USB. It’s got a 60 degree throw angle, and based on their demo video, it’s got pretty good fall-off, not too spotty.

That all being said, it’s a $40 pocketable light. It’s not going to win any awards, but if you are like me and want to take shots on the go, you are constantly looking at compromise, and this looks like a good one.

It’s up to you, but I’m in for one, got the $33 early bird special. If you are looking for inspiration on how you could use this, they actually have some great examples of tricks and tips on their Instagram.

Jared Abrams is a cinematographer based in Hollywood, California. After many years as a professional camera assistant he switched over to still photography. About two years ago a new Canon camera changed the way the world sees both motion and still photography. He just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
