Ikonoscop Forced to Stop Production Due to Financial Problems

Just because film is dying doesn’t mean raw is thriving apparently. Ikonoscop tweeted earlier today that production has temporarily stopped due to financial hardship.

Ikonoscop AB is a Swedish company founded in 1999 by filmmakers who wanted tools that weren’t out there. They’ve been trying to do it their own way since before the Kickstarter days and have had a pretty solid run of it. Their first camera was a S16 film camera, called the A-Cam SP-16, came in 2003 and they recently made the transition to raw digital cameras with their very unique A-Cam dII in 2010. Hopefully they will be able to get production ramped back up soon.

They recently dropped the price on their A-Cam dII earlier this year. A S16 uncompressed raw camera that shoots 1080p up to 37fps, the future support of this camera seems uncertain, but I think with how volatile the industry is and how quickly things can change, the same can be true about every camera out there.
