New Canon Super 35 Video Camera Rumor Parody.

Cameras

Here is a little xtranormal action I whipped up really quickly. There was some super secret stuff going on over at Birns and Sawyer yesterday under a duvetyne tent. My right hand man Chris Collins just happened to be there prepping a camera. Here is a quote from him.

“I was at Birns and Sawyer working out support gear on our FS100, and there was a duvatyne tent blocking off the last two prep bays. Somebody mentioned that there was a new camera, and nobody was allowed to see. When I asked Tim Smith about it, he told me that he was working on some DSLRs for the upcoming Ron Howard shoot. He did have 5D batteries in his hand.”

I hit up Birns and Sawyer today and basically got “NDA’ed.” Not a ton of info there. I did manage to pick up a few tidbits of info via email that suggests that the top mount LCD is removable. I also feel very confidant that the new camera from Canon will have a Super 35mm sized sensor. I was told that “I am pretty close in my findings” Here is a link to the first rumor posted on September 13th, 2011. I also have a feeling that the EF mount version will be much cheaper than expected. I am guessing that it will be in the 5K price range. I will try and add updates when available. Thanks for checking us out.

*Update #1*
There are fresh rumors of a possible late October, 2011 5D Mark III announcement by EOS HD. I have also heard about the 5D3 testing here in Hollywood. However, it’s getting a little out of hand at this point but I will try and keep you all posted. Please note that all of this information is second hand. Please take it with a grain of salt. We will know soon enough. In the meantime I found this old video about the Canon 5D3. Dig it.

*Update #2*

Canon Rumors is reporting that there will not be a 5DMKIII announcement on November 3rd, 2011. I would agree with that statement. I do not think that Canon will dilute the Hollywood event with a 5D3. However it would be nice to have everything laid out for the new year.

*Update#3*

I confirmed that the on camera LCD is removable. I also got a feeling that the price will be a little higher than expected. In the $12K price range. This could be a real bummer. However let’s hope the EF mount version will be more like $5-6K but I doubt it.

Jared Abrams is a cinematographer based in Hollywood, California. After many years as a professional camera assistant he switched over to still photography. About two years ago a new Canon camera changed the way the world sees both motion and still photography. He just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

While we are all excited and waiting in anticipation for whatever Canon has up it’s sleeves I would implore those looking to inform to be mindful about sharing information this way. While I don’t doubt the validity of Jared’s report here, the fact that he posted the camera house and an individual’s name can indeed put their career and reputation at risk. Be curious, be investigative, but don’t burn those who are already in the fire. This is coming from somebody under several NDA’s from different studios at the moment.

I put no one in jeopardy here. I also did not push anyone for answers. The report is valid. I stand behind it 100%. There has been so much leaked information about this camera that I simply wanted to inject a little humor by using the xtranormal video.
    Thanks,
    Jared

Reminds me of the “iPhone” video from a few years ago. Pretty much a rip off of that concept…

I appreciate your comment, Phil. There is an obviously immature obsession with whistleblowing at work here. I hope it doesn’t affect the company or the individual mentioned.
