New WOC Hot Shoe Adapter For Sony NEX 5N. Under $40

Cameras

We have been using the Sony NEX 5N for our documentary “The Board Of Education” for quite some time and really love it. It has some killer features and is small enough to throw in your pocket with the Sony 16mm f2.8 pancake style lens. The biggest downfall of this camera is the proprietary Sony flash mount. It limits the available on camera accessories to expensive Sony products to the tune of $129 for a hot shoe adapter for the Sony Nex 7. We decided to make our own. Dave Aldrich of Design By Dave on Twitter helped make our idea a reality. The result is a cost effective cold shoe adapter for under forty bucks. The unit shown is a prototype made of plastic. The final product will be scratch resistant hard anodized aluminum. The WOC Sony NEX 5N Hot Shoe adapter will be available shortly. Please stay tuned.

About two years ago a new Canon camera changed the way the world sees both motion and still photography. He just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

the only reason id use this camera over my gh2 is to use the oled evf vs a chunky plastic evf that draws attention.

is it really connected to smart accessory terminal so it’s working for external flash or it’s just a mount for some hot-shoe mounted accesories as lights etc…?

I’m really interested one of these. When will they be available?
I bought a NEX 5N a few months ago and now I am already realizing the limitation due to the lack of flash options. I am already considering ditching the camera for an NEX 7 but if I can find a hot shoe for it, I would definitely keep the 5N.

How does it trigger any flash if it has no electronic connections inside?
