Panasonic, Canon and Nikon. Three New Cameras, Oh My.

Cameras

Three new notable cameras were anounced last week. A killer little number GH3 from Panasonic. The new Canon 6D full frame  prosumer model and Nikon’s D600 full frame job. The Panasonic GH3 looks like the most improved of the bunch. The higher 72 Mbps rate is great. However the M4/3″ sensor has it’s limitations on the wide side. I am also not a big fan of the smaller sensor. Maybe it’s a guy thing. Canon announced the lame duck 6D with similar features to the 5DMKIII with the added bonus of WiFi. Nikon announced the fairly inexpensive full frame D600 with moire issues and a yet to catch up to video system. They might get there one day. For now I’m sticking with our Sony FS700 system. I still think it’s the best bang for the dough with possible 4K upgrades in the near future.

Philip Bloom did a nice write up and shot the above video. Click here to check it out.

Jared Abrams is a cinematographer based in Hollywood, California. After many years as a professional camera assistant he switched over to still photography. About two years ago a new Canon camera changed the way the world sees both motion and still photography. He just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
