Sony announced the new NEX-EA50 HD camera. This puppy can hunt! The new camera sports better ergonomics and a nifty built in sliding shoulder pad. It has an APS-C or S35 sized sensor with 24/30/60P full 1920 X 1080 HD resolution. The sensor and codec are similar to the Sony NEX5N camera that we love and hate. The included 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 servo zoom lens will be available on eBay for about half the price very soon.

The new Sony NEX-EA50 will set you back around $3800 $4K plus estimate now. Getting various sources in Pounds and Euros. US pricing is usually much less than our brothers across the pond. It may drop in price if they loose that POS lens. Delivery date is set for October 2012. Here is a rip from Sony.

“The NEX-EA50EH camcorder comes with the newly developed Power Zoom E-mount lens E PZ 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 OSS SELP18200. It features auto focus, continuous variable iris and Optical Steady Shot image stabilisation with Active Mode, making it ideal for shooting moving images. It is electronically controlled by both the zoom rocker lever on the camcorder grip and top handle. Film-makers can achieve a constant zoom speed and smooth, slow zoom, both of which can be difficult to accomplish with manual zoom lenses. In addition, using fixed focal length lenses users can simulate a zoom effect using the smart digital zoom function, ensuring fast-paced shots are never missed.”

A servo zoom and an ENG style body with an APS-C sensor, that does 60p at 1920×1080. The future is now!

How well would this camera match EX1 footage shot with the same frame rate. I realize there is a difference in image senors for each camera and lense being used. However, curious to know if anyone with NEX5s or other NEX cameras shot with this (EX series) scenario.

if only have ND filters… that can be the “perfect” camera for run&shoot, events, corporates, documentaries, etc
