Adobe Releases Major Update to Premiere CC

Cameras

Adobe is holding true to their promise to release regular updates to Creative Cloud. Premiere got its first boost today. The July Premiere Pro CC Update has 25 all new features and addresses the devastating multi-cam bug that plagued many.

It’s a great update no doubt, but some of these features merely fix stupid issues that didn’t need to exist in the first place.

Among my favorite corrections is with the Title tool. Duplicating a title in the sequence now create new, editable, titles that do not effect the original title. For anyone that has accidentally renamed all their lower thirds each time the make a new one, this feature saves you at least 3 or 4 curse words and a few minutes of fuming.

Offline audio files now appear red in the sequence, thank god, why was this not a thing before?

The Relink command can now be used on a sequence containing offline media, slowly they are learning about their shortcomings.

The auto-save dialogue box no longer interrupts your editing, and doesn’t update if no changes have been made. Both really obnoxious issues that I am so glad are fixed!

They made a few changes to  how In and Out points are treated and made keyboard shortcuts more functional. Now you can use your keyboard shortcuts to navigate your sequence when the source monitor is selected. You can toggle between source and program monitor via keyboard shortcut, you can also jump to in and out points in the source monitor using the keyboard. All small evolutions, but us keyboard jockeys love them!

All in all, it’s a welcome update, nothing groundbreaking in application, just evolving into a more pro-friendly app. Hopefully we will see plenty more of these updates from Adobe in the coming months.

Jared Abrams is a cinematographer based in Hollywood, California. After many years as a professional camera assistant he switched over to still photography. About two years ago a new Canon camera changed the way the world sees both motion and still photography. He just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
