How Pro Cameras Should Implement HDMI

@Cinesota on twitter shared a link to an interesting product, protected and locking HDMI connectors by Neutrik.

It seems like we can’t get rid of the HDMI port on professional cameras, but why not make them more secure? It’s still backwards compatible with existing ports and cables, but if you have the additional cable with the locks built in, you get a secure and safe connection that you won’t accidentally snap off.

I’m assuming Neutrik’s design is made for built-in home theatre set-ups, their design closely mirrors XLR connections and is a tad on the large side (seems like part of the reason manufacturers love HDMI is because they will wedge it anywhere). But if a compact universal standard for HDMI secure locking mechanism were to be made, I would be throwing a fit asking for manufacturers to add it to cameras/recorders/monitors/shoes.

So get on it HDMI.org, make a real solution for this problem that’s in your FAQ!
