The issue actually is that most often the people who don't have any talent mask that fact with expensive gear. Surprisingly this actually wins them more work because it is assumed that if you have "the right gear" then you must be good at what you do. And it's true... most people really are crap at what they do, but it isn't proliferated exclusively through technoology, but also because we are all growing up to believe that we can be superstars, whereas that will simply not happen for the great majority. I myself am in the music industry and time and time again I notice the same recurring pattern of people seemingly liking the status of being a musician or producer or performer more than they like the actual work and craft. It seems as if it's more important to be able to say to someone "Oh, I'm a singer" rather than actually get out there and sing. They all want to be superstars without any effort and minimal input. I routinely get asked to provide ready-made backings and songs for these so-called singers, and I routinely refuse. Likewise I encourage anyone serious about their respective crafts to do the same and say no to mediocrity and rubbish work ethic. Thank you. [/rant]

Great post! I know what you mean when you say most people reading this are not very good. I'll keep trying though. I really want to do this and do it well.. but after enough tries I have realized that one can never perfect all the little pieces that go into filmmaking. It's the process of turning nothing into something .. and that inside that something, you can find parts that you are proud of and that keep you going. Filmmaking is really, really hard to do.
