Extremely fair. If you lay down the cash for this one piece of gear and slowly build your shoulder/hand-held rig around it part by part (while scoping deals), the sticker shock will be much less pronounced. Well designed, well-built US made gear costs real cash money, but it's well worth it in this case.

Wow. El Skid, I'm so glad we had the chance to get some of our gear in your hands to review. Great review, well thought out. This issue of camera rocking due to a follow focus is a problem with all large lenses, it's really an issue of the small surface area of the bottom of the camera and not being able to have two tie down screws. But this is a problem with larger cameras as well. The true solution is lens support. When doing our shootout 2011 we were using these huge 10 lbs. Fuji Zoom lenses and we needed lens support on all cameras even on the RED and film camera. Here you can see our lens supports: http://store.zacuto.com/zacuto-lens-supports/ but other companies make them as well. Long lenses require support. Please contact Sara and have her send you one out to evaluate it.

Great Review.

Thank you for your honest review. I would like to comment on your caveat near the end. The follow focus lens "nod" is a known side effect of many DSLR mounts, mainly because of the consumer grade bottoms of these cameras. We always advocate the use of a lens support, certainly for lenses like the 70-200. Using this completly eliminates the "nod".
