Sony PL Mount Lenses 85mm, 50mm, 35mm

Today Canon Rumors announced that there may be three new lenses to go along with the new video camera announcement from Canon on November 3rd, here in Hollywood. I would guess that Canon may want to compete directly with Sony on this one and we could see 35mm, 50mm and 85mm PL mount glass. I have yet to see a copy of the Paramount Studios location email. CR is also reporting that the new S35 camera will record to CF cards. This could be a plus as SD cards are generally a pain simply because of their size. Here are the main points that seem to have merit so far.

* A Super 35mm sized CMOS sensor.
* PL and EF mounts.
* 4:2:2 at either 8 bit or 10 bit. 50MBPS
* Top Mount LCD monitor. Possibly detachable.
* 10-12K price range. Possibly more.

*Update #1
I just got word that we may possibly see three cameras announced from Canon this November 3rd, 2011. It may very well be a $5K Super35/APS-C sensor video camera or the 5D3. Either way, we will be the winner that day. Options are always good.

Jared Abrams is a cinematographer based in Hollywood, California. After many years as a professional camera assistant he switched over to still photography. About two years ago a new Canon camera changed the way the world sees both motion and still photography. He just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

    What happened to the rumor that the EF mount would be cheaper. I never understood why but it made me happy. 😀

    The last I heard there will be no $5K camera this time around. I think they are going for the pro video market and hope to get anywhere from $10-$15K. Direct comp to Sony F3.
    Thanks!

    I wish they would have just announced the specs and a photo. I think we all know what to expect at this point.
    Thanks!

    I suspect Canon have some form of involvement in Red Digital technology, I did say ‘suspect’ I’d invest if I had a few million burning a whole in my pocket… Can’t wait to see the Canon S35 specs, images and zoom lens range, I hope they too offer a constant aperture alternative in lens form.

    May the upcoming announcement from Nikon (D800) encourage Canon to release the 5D Mark 3 (or another full frame DSLR with Full HD capabilities) sooner than Q1-Q2 2012?

    Let’s hope! Nikon announcements of this kind are always welcome since they “push” Canon to action as well.
